The KP seems to have been discontinued

Moved to the discontinued product section of the Ricoh Imaging website, the Japanese site anyway.

Could be some website weirdness - the product page does not mention it.

PENTAX KP | RICOH IMAGING

Time will tell.

A KPii on the way in parallel with the K3iii?

The KP certainly doesn't seem to be an "end of life" model. It has very competitive performance, small size, a flippy screen and is much cheaper than the K3iii will be. It makes no sense to discontinue it without an immediate replacement.

But then, I said that about the K3ii ...

You have captured the very core of the Pentax marketing philosophy.

They might not have the parts, when the parts come in they will go to the k3iii. Eventually they will have enough part supply to have a kpii

Well, they did say at one stage that the KP was the K-3ii replacement - makes perfect sense

Big mistake IMHO, if true, unless they really don't have the capacity to have 3 APS-C lines - OR a replacement is coming soon

Presumably Ricoh only make these in the Phillipines so the KP is either discontinued or not. There is probably a large number in the system to keep dealers going for a while. Once the K3iii is up and running the designers/developers will be looking at the next project. It will be interesting to see what happens with the price differential between the KP and K70. If the K70 remains current they can't undercut the K70s price, at least until the stock is almost exhausted. UK stockists still have the KP body at £990 which seems a little expensive now. Mine was £650 in October. I suppose the question will be just how popular is/was the KP. Certainly I like mine very much, but it may be a bit niche.

On that page, Theta Z1 is also shown as discontinued, which is probably an error? It's hasn't been launched that long ago.

If discontinued in Japan and not in the USA yet, they probably ceased manufacturing of the KP. They've already sold whatever stock they had in Japan while the USA still has more to sell. Japanese camera stores might still have it.

Why would it be discontinued? Many possibilities:
1) A replacement might be just around the corner.
2) The supply chain might be disrupted by the covid pandemic. Ricoh can't assemble new cameras if a single component is unavailable.
3) As shown by the long gap between K-3ii discontinuation and the K-3iii, Ricoh's strategy might not worry about such things. Maybe Ricoh thinks the KP is too old to sell and they don't want to be caught with excess stock, regardless of a replacement model.

Word went out last week that the Theta Z1 is discontinued and with a replacement to be announced soon. At least, that is how Pentax Rumors reads the tea leaves...

Ricoh Theta Z1 is discontinued, new model to be announced by the end of March - Pentax Rumors

Yes, that is the press release from Ricoh.

Edit: Listed as such on the Japanese version product page..."PENTAX KP J limited受注終了いたしました。"
