Studio Flash for K10D

Has anyone used an external studio strobe-flash with the K10D? I have been using a radio controller to trigger them as they omitted the Flash X Synchro input. Just one more thing. Don't set to X as that forces you to only shoot at 1/180th of a second.

I haven't tried mono lights with it yet. I do use a radio controller to fire my Vivitar 285HV and 283s with the K10, which is how I shot this photo....

Not so fancy, but it pays the bills!

I use the Pocket Wizards. Way better than tripping over cords!

Photogenic Photomaster system, two power packs and four heads.

If you can't afford the wireless solution what kind of cables do you need exactly?

You need a cable from the hot shoe to the flash(es). I have some cheap Chinese adapter/wire and it works very well and fits pretty much all cameras.

Pretty much any well-stocked camera store will carry hot-shoe adapters that have a PC connector. Pentax even makes one that allows the camera's built-in flash to pop up (raising the question, that if you went through all the trouble to set up a strobe kit, why do you need the on-camera flash?).

Before I go to sleep, I hope you don't mind. I played with your image a bit. Kind of small to work on but...

Gotta watch out for the trigger voltage. The K10D only is rated for up to 6 volts. I don't know what it is for the various studio strobes, but a lot of the flash units out there are more than that. Specifically the Wein units reduce voltage to <4.

Speedotron is 64-70 volts

Balcar is 202 volts

Dynalite is 10 volts

Multiblitz is 6.5 volts

etc...

You can see flash ratings here:

Benjikan, your PP work really transforms.

I guess you tranform the image by a longitudinal stretch? Trim the arm by cloning? Brighten up the skin to rid off the rash?

This kind of "touch up" would take me centuries to do so...

Rather than stretching I use Liquify and attenuate rather than enhance i.e. stretch. For the skin I add layer and desaturate and soft light. For retouch standard burn-dodge and bandage tool.

It's certainly......interesting! I find the skinny arm on the left and the exaggerated elbow on the right downright funny!

Interesting idea. Not sure I'd show it to the client, but for an attention getting ad it might work well! On the other hand, my wife (not the subject) likes it better than the original. Clever!

You do good work.

BTW, I use the "duplicate layer - Gaussian Blur - mask to erase the blur over the sharp bits (eyes, hair, clothes)" method. I even made an Action to set it up. The ladies love it!
