Thanks for the comparison, I just googled to find out how 16-85-cropped compares to 18-135, and could not find any answers.

I already have 15 mm, and I like it a lot.

As you said, 18-135 is a good one lens solution, as lens changing is annoying to me and most importantly sometimes causes missing a shot.
As I remember the cropped 16-85 at 85 was slightly inferior to the 135 setting on the 18-135. Not much of a difference. Of course, the 16 mm focal length was infinitely better that that of the 18-135 :-).

For the most compact + quality combo for biking, I very frequently use my DA 20-40mm Ltd, then have along the very small DA 15mm and DA 70mm Ltds in case I need more range. However, that said, when I really want to avoid lens changing with quality + zoom range, it's my DA 18-135mm all day long. It is remarkably compact for such a zoom range for well-balanced carrying, has very good construction including WR, one of the best zoom lenses for faster and accurate AF performance, and doesn't cost an arm and a leg. I've had mine some 10 years and still turn to it when I need versatility with fine results.

Also a used 18-135 is relatively cheap. Pentax 16-85 is definitely much sharper at corners, but it is somewhat large and more expensive. Having DA 15, Tamron 17-50, DA 60-250, Tamron 90, and FA 77, it is difficult to convince myself to buy a relatively expensive lens which focal length is already covered.

Have you tried any point and shoots when biking?

I can't speak to anything but the Canon G7x II. I bought it to have a smaller camera with a relatively large (1") sensor. Apparently, size matters. While I was happy with it in good outdoor lighting, that is all it was good for. Flash is crippled by Canon's firmware, and ISO 400 looked pretty rough in low(er) light. I found it unusable above ISO 400. For reference, my DSLRs are Canon 80D and 5DII.

The dog photo is at ISO 640. Even w/flash (enough light) the noise is obvious and kills all detail. Grandson (Albert Einstein) was shot w/flash at ISO 320. Heavy shadow noise is distracting, but the subject at least has some detail. I did take this camera to several Chicago Cubs games. It does great in bright sunshine. So does my cell phone. Sold the G7x II as disappointing.

A few years ago I got a Panasonic FZ1000 when B&H had a half price sale on it. Has a 42x zoom or some such Leitz lens on it. Does basic 4K video too if you need it. Pretty handy camera. but it is no DSLR. It does not get used much, but it does come in handy.
