All I want from Pentax is

A long long time ago, in a galaxy far far away..............

Pentax made DSLRs with both TTL and P-TTL flash.

Why, at least in a flagship model can’t we have both again

It has so many advantages, for using legacy lenses, to shooting with a teleconverter, to wildlife where it is much more accurate than P-TTL

Either that or at least add a TC input option to have the body correct for direct feed through TCs for not only correct aperture reporting for flash exposure but also focal length for shake reduction

While the former would require hardware the latter is simple software.

I would love a return to TTL.

I don’t understand why, with sensor readout as fast as it is, we can’t that right off the chip...

Even a couple of pixels just for that... maybe the ones Sony uses to focus on their cameras...

But if Sony wanted to put Pentax out of business, it would take two things:
- an overhaul of their UI
- a K mount adapter that has an uncrippled K-mount that also works with KAF4.

I don't think Sony would desire Pentax to crap out of the market. Pentax's market share is too small and Sony can easily achieve that by outperforming other camera companies other than Pentax. Pentax could crap out (I hope not) of camera business based on their business decision alone.

But what I want from Pentax is to continue spewing cameras and lenses in the future. I really want to have the K-3iii to a little (lighter as for travel and family photos in general with a flippy screen of course.

The istD* and the ist DL both had an additional photocell build in. Thus a camera with the old TTL mode is more complicated to built without any real advantage for Pentax. P-TTL (or however they called it) was implemented by all the competitors and sold as a new feature, better then the old TTL. So why should Pentax built a camera with something that only is usefull with old flashes (they want to sell new ones I guess), has been seen as an outdated technoloy on the market from start on and makes building the camera more comlicated and expensive?

It is not a question of use with old flashes, TTL is better for some applications regardless of age of flash, specifically wildlife, aside from that, it is not just a question of working with old flashes, it is a question of also working with legacy Pentax lenses and teleconverters because the camera cannot correct exposure for when a teleconverter is used, unless the teleconverter corrects for aperture, the Pentax DA 1.4x does this but it is a cropped sensor only TC, not full frame and is recently released only, we have gone years with cameras that do not or did not support the commercially available products to be used with their cameras.

The fact is, it is not a question of an outdated product, it is a question of cost only, because they use the cameras open aperture metering sensors to perform both functions. But it is a cost of what? A few dollars. What was the cost of the K1 MKII. Several thousand dollars. I can see it not being used in. Consumer bodies like the K70 , but for flagship products???

Is TTL still used on modern digital cameras from other manufacturers?

I would love a DSLR with head up display type tech. Sometimes it would be so useful to can see the histogram or marching ants without taking your eye from the viewfinder

Oh, and a really affordable, highly usable (cf 55-300) long tele - a £/$500 200mm to 600mm would be lovely. Please

And thank you

I'm a lttle sleepy this morning - I don't understand the use of flash with wildlife cited by the original poster. Are you hunting big game?

And I'm with LittleSkink on waning a long telephoto around 600mm. I have a Sigma 150-600 Sport DG OS for the Canon 5DMkIV, and its phenomenal. Wish I had something like it - it doesnt have to be a zoom, just beyond the 150-450. eg 400-600, or just 600mm.

No. It is not, only proprietary versions. Not a single camera maker has seen any reason to invest in the research needed to make TTL flash metering work with a CMOS sensor. Early Fujifilm SLRs and the *istD & *istDS were the last.

All I want from Pentax is better AF tracking so reviewers can't keep criticizing it.

Plus, since it seems to be all the rage now, better video performances.

I think it would maintain or increase revenues if such an adapter existed, because even if a fraction of Sony's user base went ahead and purchased some Pentax lenses (think Limited) it would be more than the current Pentax user base.

Some disagree, that's how I see things panning out. Pentax could keep developping DSLRs but gain more buyers for their lenses.

Oh that would be amaaaaaaazing. I think it is the one feature I miss in my K5, and I know focusing is still a skill I need to work on.

I would appreciate if Pentax would reintroduce a split focus screen (manual focusing via viewfinder). Thank you.

Is this thread about flashes (as in the OP's post) or about anything?
