Thanks for that!

It would be nice to see the K-3 II on that chart as well.

I think they have, since it is listed on the right of the image.

Super, thanks!

Wow, that looks different. Quite a dramatic improvement from the K-3 II. Of course this is as expected, but still it is interesting to see the difference compared to the difference between the K-3 III and the other cameras you selected.

On a different point, judging from the jump in the curves, it does seem the K-3 III accelerator kicks in earlier than in previous models (except for the GR III that I see you also added), where this happens beyond ISO400. In the K-3 III it seems only ISO100 is accelerator free?

EDIT: interesting to see the shape of the K-3 III curve is most similar to the one of the GR III. I love the IQ of the GR III...

Not sure I'm this interpretation is correct though?

Regardless, the IQ of the images out of the camera will be the final judge.

Wim

Even more interesting is the advantage over competing APS-C cameras:

Same philosophy K3ii => K3iii as Ricoh engineers did with K1 => K1ii. Accelerator applies noise reduction in RAW files. I am absolutely happy with my K1ii and the output at higher ISO's. So no issue for me.

K-3 III - Photons to Photos sensor DR measurements

Bill Claff shared his analysis of K-3 III's sensor on "the other forum".

QuoteQuote:
Except between ISO 100 and ISO 160 there is very strong Noise Reduction (NR) baked into the raw data even with NR set to off.
These results are not comparable to any other cameras.
Note that the NR is so strong that the camera measures well above what a perfect sensor could accomplish.

They want to measure with the numbers what is stated not measurable with numbers.

That's fairly impressive. It manages to outdo most of the FF sensors it looks like.

I'd wish Bill Claff would remove his claim of being "trusted source"; that isn't up to him to decide.

Can someone tell me how their can be a jump in dynamic range 'after' 200ish ISO. Presumably this is some jiggery pokery in an onboard processor chip?
