Squirrel

We use the term squirrel in our house for easily getting distracted. The 31 limited was next on my list and I was gonna rent a DA 300 for an upcoming event when all of a sudden the DA70 went on sale combined with my poinst caused me to spend less than a kit lens for it…So I’m guessing I’ll rent the 300 love it and the 31 will get kicked further down the list. Anyone else have this problem?

Don't worry. There are lot of us here carry the same sickness. And it is contagious. Your post alone triggered me to watch prices for DA70, 31 and DA300.

I'm sicker (and most likely older) than you. I already have all 3.

When the K-3 got 'delayed' (yet again) I bought a new HD 40mm thinking that the K-3 III was going to be awhile out.
Then I had an opportunity I could not refuse in the purchase of a used DA* 50-135. Ok sure.
But then.
Boom - K-3 III released.
My line of credit is not happy. Nor the wife.
But I am quite smitten

Well we won’t talk about the 150-450 to fill my lack of a proper modern zoom…

There is always some rationalization that happens. I would like to get the 800mm f/6.7 lens for 6x7 and could rationalize the purchase because I do well with manual focus and it can be used with all bayonet mount Pentax film or digital cameras. I guess we are on this website because we know we will always want something more and want to have fun getting there.

Wanted the 20-40mm, spotted a great price on a 40mm f2.8 (god I love that lens)
Started saving again, spotted a great price on a 15mm f4 (god I love that lens too)
Started saving again, spotted a great price on a 50mm f1.8 (god I love that lens as well)
Started saving again and am hugely tempted by a Japanese fa 35mm f2 and an fa 28mm f2.8

This could run and run

Probably most of it comes down to needs versus wants. If you are shooting professionally and you need a particular lens -- say you shoot weddings and you need a 24-70-ish f2.8 lens -- you are going to let yourself get distracted. But when you are really looking for a new lens to try out, it really doesn't matter what focal length you get, you still scratch that itch.

The DA 70 is a nice lens, as are the FA 31 and DA *300. I wouldn't worry about it, just keep your eyes open and maybe a good deal will come up on one of the others down the road -- particularly now that the HD FA limiteds are out.

In the end I had to sell my house. And now I have the problem which lens to choose. And before the decision is made the opportunity has gone to make that great picture that will turn around my life. I always take the lens that I feel most comfortable with, only have not decided yet which one that actually is...

Unless one has unlimited time to use every lens one owns every day, there is nothing wrong with renting.
In my case, renting encourages me to maximize my use of the rented items during that period, and often inspires me to try a few new ideas.

Now get to it.
