My old K-5 IIs is still fine with me as a K-3 type camera, and now I have two KP bodies, as being my most often used. IQ is outstanding, higher ISO performance is great for low light and fast action in less than bright lighting, AF is improved, nice features like the pull-out rear screen and built-in flash, and I have the battery grip when using larger lenses and it can then provide even more battery life than the K-3.

You got a degree of consensus here that is very unusual for PF Carol!

And with only 18 posts in a "make 6 posts a day period". Unbelievable really! Although I suspect this thread will be resurrected in about 4 years time and you will get further advice despite having put thousands of actuations on your Kp

PS - I like the K-3 and Kp combo. Stylish walk around and excellent high ISO performance with the Kp and great ergos, all day battery sports or wildlife tank with the K-3 - good choice!

The KP produces excellent shots, but its weakness is shortish battery life and poor buffering. Battery life is easily fixed with a spare battery, but the buffering, if it is important to you, is a potential dealbreaker. Me? The buffering doesn't concern me

It's true. But I didn't mention that potential problem since she already has a K-3. Unless she plans to sell it, she still have it if she really needs to take many shots at once.

Shorter battery life does not concern me, as I would definitely have a backup battery. I don't shoot anywhere but at home, so no problem.

I shoot right in my back yard, for birds, wildlife.
Just checked: Montana is about the same latitude as Belgium, so you'll probably often go into high ISOs in your backyard. Guess the KP should be the best choice. GPS coordinates will not give much added value since you know where you are and I guess you'll have spare batteries or charger close by as well.

Excellent choice. You cannot go wrong with that choice. Enjoy your new camera. I suspect you might love it.
