I upgraded through the board replacement offer---$500usd. Thought it was a great idea. Some improvements, yes, but I think $500 was a good price---not sure the improvements are worth the cost of a whole new body.

So, I say wait for the K1mkIII. If you don't need the new 50 or 85 lenses, or the new Limiteds (and there's another one coming...), then I would bank that money and wait. Spend the waiting time learning something new or polishing your skills. I always have something new to learn, and always need skills polished. I can do those things with the gear I have.

Another vote for spending your money on a lens. Or if needed some kind of combination of tripod, filter system, bag, etc, etc.

I think you will get better results investing in beer.

I have K-1 and K-3 (and even K-5 as backup body) and a strategy of avoiding minor upgrades. So I second those who suggest investing in new lenses instead (depending on what you already have, of course). My next step with camera bodies will probably be K3 iii (as soon as the prices get lower or I happen to find a good one second hand - it may take years, I know, and I try to patient.).

Main reason for this plan: better AF with significant improvement in high ISO performance. I use the crop bodies mainly for telephoto nowadays, trying to benefit the narrower FOV with the crop factor. I am fully satisfied with the IQ of K-1 already: it still offers me a lot to learn.

Beer can definitely make your images look better, in the same way that it can make pick-ups at a bar look better.

I bought the K-1 on pre-order and then had it upgraded to the K-1II during the special offer. There are some differences and I think it was worth the upgrade. But at this point I don't think selling a K-1 to buy a K-1II is wise. Spend the money on glass and wait for the K-1III.

I had my K-1 upgraded during the campaign. Yes, there are some improvements, but not that dramatic after all. The MkIII is probably not too far in the future. At this point of time I think I would wait for it.

I think last night I had a momentary lapse of reason and was thinking there was more to the K-1ii than there actually is. Looking at better glass instead,

Strangely I have been thinking of moving from K1ii to K1, hearing about the better handling of high ISO images.
Don't believe everything you hear.

That would be my choice too.

Just think, for not much more, you can get just about the best 85mm lens ever made.

While there were definite improvements, it would seem to me the usefulness of those improvements depends on the needs of the individual. The accelerator technology, judging by the KP and now the K-3 III, including lab tests, imaging examples, and user reports, has been a success and is here to stay in forthcoming new models. So at this point, if the advancements of the K-1 II would be useful to the OP, and by acquiring a new K-1 II and then selling the old K-1 with some miles on it would buy these advancements at a moderate price, then it would be worth it. But the OP says higher ISO performance is not needed- in which case, what is the point, other than getting a brand new body at a good price? The price of the K-1 II these days is indeed truly a bargain for all that it offers.

For that reason, I am very comfortable having bought mine late last year, and after I saw what the K-3 III came without, I thought I'd better grab the deal on a new K-1 II because no telling if I would actually like the K-1 III better. I got the kit deal with the DFA 28-105mm lens so I'd have a WR FF setup, as my very fine old FF lenses are not WR, but the new lens is fantastic in its own right. The K-1 II is somewhat over 2 years old, and FF DSLR models are slow to be replaced, especially when they have reached such a high level of performance. I do use the improved high ISO performance, and the K-1 II is so good I am not anxiously looking forward to a K-1 III for the foreseeable future. I have no doubt it will follow the example of the K-3 III in combining the accelerator technology with the BSI technology, a very logical and effective advancement. And no doubt along with this will come a much higher price. But if one does not need yet higher ISO performance?? What would be the point over just keeping on with the K-1 or K-1 II??

I'm skipping straight to K-1 mk IV rumors, I like to think big.
I'm waiting for that one. Then I'll get the original K1.

If waiting for the K1-III is anything like waiting for the K3-III, you have a long, long wait. But the time will be filled with rumors, speculation threads, little teaser videos, and lots of other things. So you won't get bored – only frustrated.

For me, I think I would like my K1 before they put me in the "home," so I'll probably keep an eye on the Pentax Marketplace.
