Duh Vinci,
Yup, $200 cashback on a $779 body. I used a 10% ebay coupon also which made it a total of $520 shipped.

Ben,
I really don't like using the K10d at ISOs any higher than 400. Glad to here the 20D is more accepable at 1000. I know there are certain formats where the old film grain is nice, some B&W for instance. I haven't explored that area yet but I am looking forward to it.
I am starting to dig into the PP side of things more and trying to figure out flash.
Now if I can just get the old LBA monkey off my back.

BTW thanks to the both of you for the reasurrance about Cameta.
ISO 400 was my usual limit at the K10D, too - though sometimes ISO640 was still acceptable and ISO800 my last resort for small prints. The K20 is really much better at higher ISO levels, well worth exploring.

Ben

I pulled the trigger on a K20D today, as well. I (er, I mean my wife) was planning on giving me an FA 43/1.9 for Christmas, but given the low cost of the K20D, "she" decided to give me the camera instead.

"She" bought the Amazon Black Friday deal, which includes a free Optio A40 and a small gadget bag. We were planning to give my older daughter a P&S (to replace an expired Canon) anyway. In addition, I ordered the K20D with the kit lens, which along with the gratis bag and my very low mileage DS2, I'll be giving to my younger daugther. I'll probably throw in my 2000-vintage FA 50/1.4 as well; this will give her a low light option, and I very rarely use it - I always seem to reach for my FA 35/2 or DA 40 Limited instead (now you see why I don't "need" an FA 43/1.9*)

Jer

*Although the argument will strengthen with the departure of the 50 (always thinking ahead).

I see a lot of folks taking advantage of the low prices.

While I always tried to keep ISO as low as possible on my K10D, but honestly, I never had any reservations going up to ISO 800, specially for stage shots, as long as the exposure was not pushed to the limit. And in decent light condition, for shutter speed sake, even ISO 1600 (all exif should be intact):

So considering that K20D can do better - me be very very happy!

Regards,
D

Nice Images... As you know, noise is much more visible in darker images or deep shadows, than in your midtone dominated examples. But there have been some variations in the K10 production lifecycle, as to the severeness of noise, the cameras produce. Some people have K10s, which produce very visible npoise at ISO400, others have no noise problem at all and I count myself in the middle. The K20 is really better, in that respect.

regards
Ben

The K20D has a lot more chroma noise in the shadows AFAIK though (more than competitors).
There was a really long thread on the fred miranda forums on this with Herb Chong noticing this (the blows up the images really large). If you have to adjust exposure in post, the chroma noise shows up quickly.
My guess is this chroma noise is why some folks think the K20D looks "filmlike" because developed film also had a higher level of noise than most digital cameras...
