K3-III menu on the K1?

When I used Nikon, I always found the vertical tabbed, vertically scrolled menu more intuitive than Pentax's horizontal pages. The k-3 iii has this menu. What is the likelihood Pentax releases this menu to older DSLRs as well or will they consider it simply not worth the effort?

I wish apart from core imaging library (for IP reasons) the rest of the firmware code was open sourced. Open sourcing would allow us to develop and modify and it would make a truly amazing DSLR experience. So many small features can be added. Is there anyone with reach at Ricoh to talk to them about these ideas?

Zero.

That would be fun, but honestly I cannot imagine a scenario where Ricoh allows access to the firmware. Just not going to happen. Though I would be pleasantly surprised if it did.

Proprietary hardware for profit designed to use open-source low-level firmware? Surely you jest? If one desires an open source camera interface, it would be good to start with open-source camera hardware.

Do you mean that you can't get used to the horizontal menu, but you expect the many thousands of other Pentaxians to get used to the vertical menu?

It seems they considered it, but the problem is that they can not adjust the firmware to have touchscreen capabilities on all the older camera's. Originally the name of the K-3 Mark III was the K-Touch to make clear the difference between the old K-? and this new one, but because of the popular demand for a new K-3 they renamed it to the K-3 Mark III.

Thanks AfterPentax Mark II sama for clarifying that up. Any source that points to how they considered it? Usually, android for example, runs on touch as well as non-touch devices (like desktops) just fine because touch is an input device, as is a mouse and keyboard. Even windows, the mouse is actually optional, you can do 100% of most actions using just the keyboard.

So I am surprised that they could not get the new menu on older pentaxes just because presence of a new feature.
