Help with flash on K20D please

Today I was trying to get my K20D to set at 1/180 with the built-in flash on. I just couldn't figure it out. I'd set it in Av, Tv, TAv etc modes, even M I think, but as soon as I pop up the flash it would go back down to 1/90.

What am i missing?

There's a lens dependency for the flash. Check the manual. not familiar w/ the k20 but you should be able to adjust speed in manual mode. W/ my D I can go from anything slower to max sync w/ pop up flash up.

Make sure the camera isn't set to slow shutter sync.

Are you *sure* you tried Tv and M modes? Those are usually the only ones that would provide direct control of shutter speed when using flash. In the other modes, shutter speed defaults to something like 1 / focal length. The reason being that shutter speed isn't nearly as relevant in flash photography as it is otherwise, since the duration of the flash itself is so short.

My K20D uses 1/180s as the default setting.

Yep, I had it set to trailing curtain as I was taking some dance show shots, so any ghosting I wanted to appear before the flash.

Thank you all.
