In Camera File Folders

When creating in camera (Pentax K1) file folders, as in 101_118, 102_118, 103_118 etc.

Say I take a series of frames in, example, 101_118, and then continue on with creating and taking frames in new folders.

Then at some point I would like to add to the frames in, example, folder 101_118.

Is it possible to go back and add to that folder?

Short answer is no! These folders are created the moment you make a picture and sometimes you even get more folders created on the same day. Usually I see a new folder created each day.

How folders are created & named is discussed on p. 104 et seq. in the K-1 manual. I have mine set to the 101PENTX mode to avoid a profusion of folders on the SD card. I also have my file name prefix set to K1D (and K3D in my other camera) so I can quickly tell which camera an image was taken with.

Thank you for the replies.

Just as I had (feared) suspected.
Was hoping someone knew something I didn't, they usually do.

I am aware of the naming convention.

Just makes me take more notes to remember to add this folder set to that folder set.

Oh well, it is what it is.

Thank you.

You did exactly the same as I did. But I like all those separate folders and the OP wanted to know if he could turn back to an earlier map, that is what the question was about.

I'm not sure how it works on a two-card system but the prefix (e.g. 101) gets incremented from the highest number folder resetting to 100 from 999 whenever a new folder is made. So the one way perhaps to recycle a folder name is to make the folder you want to recycle the highest prefix/base on the card(s). In other words eliminate the higher prefixed folders or renumber them lower. However I think the lowest number is 100. Also I'm not sure when a new folder gets created on the same date when using the date number scheme. That is when 101_0118 goes to 102_0118. Is it between cards or when there is a threshold number of files in the folder?

I don't think you can edit the folder names using the camera itself. Rather you would either connect the camera or card to a PC or Mac and change the folder names using the computer OS file management.
