I always have a lens on the camera. Why wouldn't you?
as stated above in one of my posts......the new camera bag (that came with the camera) I have isn't large enough to have the lens on the camera. I will purchase a new bag soon, but I have a lot of equipment now and would never be able to carry it "all" on my back.

or get a DA 40 LTD to keep on the camera while you find a larger camera bag!

Whenever I put the camera away I always put the 'normal' (16-45 in my case) zoom back on and reset' all camera parameters (mode, iso, ev comp, flash comp, etc) back to my 'standard' settings. When I pull the camera out of the bag, I know it's ready to go.
Woah. Why didn't I read this a few hours ago? A deer was inside our fence and looked pretty confused. It was with in 20 feet of me many, many times. I was snapping away. In the rush panic to go take some pictures, I just grabed and shot. Back at the computer, What? Tungsten WB? ISO 1600!? IS turned off? Bummer.

It depends on the bag. With the Domke F2 they are separated as there is not room for the body/grip and lens attached. I usually take the F2 when I want to carry/store lots of gear....K200D, 12-24, 17-50/2.8, 55-300, 90mm Macro and the AF360 flash. I use the F3X as a shooting bag, the K200d with 17-50 attached and one or two lenses or a lens and a flash in the bag. The DA40mm is always in the F3X as it just slips in any ole place......
