Nice to see you post and nicer still that you shared this gem.

I'll pretty much run and dump these. I can't 'get in' with you guys here, I simply get blocked from threads or my posts meddled with and sections omitted. But if I have a video that might be specifically interesting to you chaps then I'll dump it.

That's certainly the way of these forums.

Yep and that is pretty much my beef, it's not people per se but the rules of this forum. It is a home for passive aggressive game playing keyboard warriors. It's about winning arguments here through clever use of the English language. Be slimy enough to not be outright caught and you can be as mean as you like. You can speak far more frankly in other places without post deletion or threads being locked down. I am in some groups where 'don't be a jerk' is the only rule and seems to be more than enough to have sensible discussions. We don't need a nanny.

Someone needs to let PF know it's the year 2022.

You know, fellas, I don't think PentaxForums is perfect by any means. There's lots I like about it, and some things I'm not so keen on - but overall I benefit from being here, which is why I keep coming back to read and participate (you guys clearly get something from it too, otherwise you wouldn't post - right?). Since I benefit from the community, I try to be publicly appreciative of it, as well as the host and team that run it. When I feel I can't, I just keep quiet. I might occasionally contact Adam or the mods privately if there's a problem - and I might not always agree with the outcome; but otherwise I just try to abide by the rules and make the most of being here...

Wow! This thread went runny really quickly Pentax Forums is tremendous. OK, there are times when I am surprised at how little it takes to fall foul of the rules but I do understand the need. As for individuals, we can't get on with everyone but after a while we learn who to avoid and who to boriscleto. (I am sure I have ticked off a few). Sometimes I bite but I make a conscious effort not to. I am constantly battling with the black dog, dunno why, life isn't that bad but there it is. Battling with the spikey is bad for my health but there are more than enough tremendous members like @BigMacCam, @texandrews, @sandyhancock who have recognised I was struggling and helped me out of a hole. Pentax forums is informative, funny, engaging and sometimes even addictive. I totally get the OPs comments but I think its case by case, and, for me, the whole thing, rules included, really work. It is a shame to lose members like @BruceBanner because I generally found his views to be bang on

Why I stay with Pentax is because my KP and K3 make me happy. The perceived issues aren't issues for me. AF is plenty fast and accurate enough and I don't do video. I have all the DA limited and they are spectacular. I am currently rocking a 1959 Takumar 135mm and the images have been brilliant. IQ wise, my images are up with the FF brigade in my societies competitions. Ergonomically, my KP is bang on. I have also recently discovered film and the workflow from the MX and the KP has become so intertwined, they also look great together, both being silver. Eye AF may be neat, and the way Fuji upgraded XT3 s when the XT4 came out was impressive. Nikon and canon mid/high end mirrorless are looking the business but I don't care. I don't have a budget, let alone one big enough to jump ship. If I won the lottery things may be different (I would have to start doing it first) but I can genuinely say I am 98% happy to remain a Pentaxian

What a nice post (and thank you for the kind, humbling mention )... It rather exemplifies the main reason I still shoot Pentax. I mean, I really like the equipment - it's not perfect, but works very well for me in ways that I find practical and enjoyable... but I could actually shoot any brand and get what I need from it. This community, though, has been of so much benefit to me. I've learned a huge amount from folks here, accelerated my progress, corrected my misunderstandings, resolved problems with my gear and technique, even had the opportunity to share a little of my own knowledge and experience, and made numerous good friends along the way (we may not have met face-to-face, but I consider these friendships to be very real nonetheless - and I'm truly grateful for them). PentaxForums is an incredible learning and support resource for me, but also a social club where I'm fortunate enough to mix and chat with mostly awesome folks (we don't always see eye-to-eye, but we usually get past that ). The fact that it's largely dedicated to Pentax users and equipment keeps me firmly grounded with the brand

Exactly @BigMacCam I am in two photographic societies, PF is one of them I totally agree with the flagged issues, its human nature. Half of the time though I don't get why people are getting so het up regarding the forum, it goes way beyond Pentax and I think this is what makes it unique. Not only is it the best Pentax resource, we also cover other brands in a fair and measured way. Where else could I start threads on 3rd party batteries, processing film in coffee (you need to try that Mike) and resilvering the mirror in my 1946 Zeiss ikoflex.

Re YouTube videos, @BruceBanner I have watched a bit of the posted video. Interesting stuff (subscribed) I will finish it later and @Qwntm don't change what you do. I am a big fan of your honesty both there and here

In general internet resources reflect the average body of knowledge from community members, who are mostly hobby photographers learning from the same community. It's like Wikipedia, it rarely go very deep and comprehensive on a topic. You could leave about chemistry by reading Wikipedia pages, but it's never going to be as structured and verified knowledge as going through a master's degree program at a specialist university. Books from professionals , or white papers from camera companies would be better sources of knowledge then internet forum members arguing with each others, or gear review sites like DPR (basically the font of amazon camera shop), IMO. Every time I search something about print making, gear required, equivalences online, I found a lot of discussions, a lot of arguing and no conclusion. So I made my own print hard proofs, and a hundred print projects taught me more than anything I found online, I don't even ask online anymore, because I know how subjective and personal the answers will be.

Most every time I participate in a thread or start a thread here, I get jumped by someone passively aggressively starting a fight so that my posts get deleted or my threads get locked.

It's very easy to do, someone makes a borderline insulting snarky comment, I try to defend myself.

So for me the forum part of the experience is a hostile environment best to be avoided.

As an information resource for Pentax it's great, but I access that most times not signed it. It prevents me from trying to be helpful and get beat up for my efforts.

My contribution to the Pentax community can be accessed through my Youtube channel. I read and respond to every comment and help as much as I can.

Thanks! I appreciate that!
You can be honest without being aggressive or hostile.
Several other members have trouble with that also;
I reply in kind and some Mod steps it.
That is the best solution.

So you are accusing me of being hostile and aggressive when I'm being honest, and that I have a problem with that as do some other members?

And when I am like that, that's why the mods step in? And you like that solution...

And in no way are you being passive aggressive? And craftily and insultingly baiting me? So that I have to defend myself and then I'm the bad actor by being aggressive and hostile?

While these comments last, thanks for perfectly illustrating everything I'm saying, I appreciate it.

And they say often that the members here are such friendly people.

Again, passively aggressively saying I am not a friendly person?

I was quoted here and all I said was "AMEN" agreeing with the person who made the original statement, which was quoted also but not attributed.

Why single me out?

How would you respond if someone singled you out and implied you were an unfriendly person?

I'm just asking questions at this point. Is that considered "aggressive and hostile?"

Is your comment here all that friendly?

Just a guess but it might be because none of your posts in this thread have anything to do with the thread topic and all them are negative toward the forum they are being seen by some as just stirring the pot to cause trouble. Mind you, that's just a guess as to how your posts might be perceived by other members.

There have now been 25 posts since the original. Only 4 of those have anything to do with the thread topic so.......................

You were invited to respond to a PM. It's your choice whether to do so.
