About USB Micro-B connectors...

Hey folks,

So, I recently bought myself a K-70, tested and I like it a lot. However, I don't know about you but despite the usefullness of those connectors which prevent accidental disconnection they are a bit hard to disconnect from the camera when you are finished with transferring your shots on the PC. I wonder if the prongs those connectors are equipped with are really necessary. What is your opinion?

I don’t have the k-70 but with all my gear I either use the sd card slot or I use wireless for phone transfers when that’s all I need.

I suggest using a card reader with the PC rather than risking damage to the fitting on the camera.

Good idea! and I just happen to have one. I think this is what I will be doing since I am a bit affraid that in the long run damage could occur. Thanks a lot for reminding me a solution I should have thought of myself first! :-)

Try a different cable. I have one where the prongs barely hold. If I move the device after plugging it in many times the connection gets broken and it doesn't charge. Other cables don't have this problem and the one cable is loose on all my devices so it is not the socket.

I have found micro-USB to be an unreliable connection. Those prongs quickly wear out to the point of failure, and you'll be lucky to establish a good data connection. I second the idea of a dedicated card reader.

Just in case you aren't aware, after your reader transfers only use your camera to reformat your SD card

You don't have to reformat after transferring from the card! importing photos does not modify an SD card in any way.

True. However deleting individual files should be avoided as it increases wear on the card and increases failure rate. The actual lifespan change isn’t a huge difference these days but it is the best practice. I have many cards I’ve abused and they all work fine - but I’m not a pro so a loss of a file isn’t a major loss in most cases (I’m not losing them, I’m just saying my risk tolerance is higher).

I didn't say you had to only if you do use the camera, not your computer.
