K10D body noise reduction...

... can it soften photos? I was just wondering if the in body NR has any effect on the sharpness of a photo.

If you mean the noise reduction that can be turned on and off from a menu, then that is long exposure noise reduction that subtracts a dark frame from image (google for "dark frame subtraction" or similar for a longer explanation). It should really only have an effect if your exposure is at least several seconds long. And it should not make images softer.
