Taking the new babies out for testing: who will prevail??

K-3 III (new out of box, so far 100 test actuations) and K-01 (eBay Japan, 8167 actuations) going on road trip today. K-01 will have the 21 Limited and the K-3 III will have the 20-40 Limited. Parks, lakes, flowers, the usual.

Adding K-30 with 15 Limited since that is the better comparison for K-01.

I own the 21 and 20-40 - I find them more similar than the 15 and the 21. You might toss the 20-40 on the K-30?
Enjoy the outing.

Quick snaps, tried to make as same as possible but K-01 does not have TAv so did AV. All RAW, passed through DxO and sent corrected to DCU for "landscape", no other corrections.

Sunday test will be K-30 (20-40) and K-01 (21) since those are the closest to each other.

I do note I have different metering settings on these guys. I had set the K-3 III for "Multi Auto White Balance" and EXIF says:

MeteringMode : Multi-segment
AutoBracketing : 0 EV, No Extended Bracket
WhiteBalance : Multi Auto

But when it gets to Flickr it says "Manual"

You can get Tav mode on a K-01 by setting ISO to auto and then going to manual as I recall. It's not documented in the manual but I've done it, comes right up on screen as "Tav".

Sweet! I just did that. I had to go to AV first to set the aperture, then M, then ISO auto (100-3200) then set the shutter speed. TAv right up in the top left.

THANKS!!!

see p81/82 and p151 in the Operating Manual
Everything can be adjusted with the camera in Manual mode.
The use of the Green button and the A/V button in conjunction with the e-dial can be configured to suit you.
Not quite as intuitive as "proper" TAv on a camera with two e-dials, but easy enough with a bit of practice
Enjoy!

Quality in terms of sharpness, etc. seems about the same between the first 3 photos. The main differences it seems to me are the following: The first was taken using pattern metering, while the second was using center-weighted, which is not usually as good for bringing out shadow detail. The 3rd came out at a brighter exposure due to there being a much higher percentage of the dark earth circle in the frame. Other than that, your equipment appears to be functioning well. However, before packing a kit up for an outing, it appears your vehicle could use a bit of a tune-up!

Yeah I noticed that the K-01 was much lighter than the others.

And i just changed everyone to pattern metering, I had missed that so thanks.

i've got to get the flowers out of the truck first before I can take it to the garage.

Compared K-30 (20-40) and K-01 (21) with as close parameters as I could make. Lots of flowers etc.

Bonus robin pic only from K-30, the K-01 had soft focus or I aimed wrong, did not want to disturb mom.

Ha ha! I have to admit since getting the HD DA 20-40mm Limited, which I love for its versatility combined with compactness, fine imaging, and great build quality, I have been taking out my smc DA 21mm Limited only on occasions when I am looking for most-possible compactness in a very good all-around prime lens. In which case, I'd say having this minute WA prime on the K-01 would be a good match.
