Recordable image # always 999/670

I just shot with my new K200D last night and the recordable image data is always 999 and on occasion 670. (I didn't change JPG quality during the shoot) I shot 400 images and the image number never changed. I was shooting hi-quality JPEG w/ the 8GB Transend SDHC, and I suspect the problem is that the data counter doesn't go above 999. I tried out a 2GB card and the image numbers counted down correctly.

Any advice on how I can get the correct number of photos I'm taking with the 8GB card when I'm in JPG 999 plus images? I'm a concert photographer and I need instant feedback, and can't really spend the time accessing the feedback menu and going through the Folder No/File No in the pit. Thanks.

I am having the same problems. Using a Sandisk Extreme III 4Gb SDHC card in my K200D. I have had the camera since last April and in the past few months it has started showing 670 shots available rather than 827.

I use Energizer rechargeable batteries with the battery grip.

I want to know if this is a known fault, as my K100D didn't have any such problem. If it is a known problem, Pentax has better get a fix for it as I need to know exactly how many shots I have left when out in the wilds. Also noted batteries start draining really quickly once the 670 appears. If it can't be fixed, then there won't be a K20D or newer model for me, it will be a move to Canon! I have used Pentax for years, but I can't be loyal to a manufacturer who has defective equipment.

The counter is only a 3 digit readout. Thus the highest it can ever show is 999. My 4GB card holds around 1300 shots for my K100DS and shows 999 until I take about 400 or so shots.

Yep, on the K100D and K100D Super, you will get 1300 shots approx on a 4Gb card, but the K200D is 10 megapixel and you will get 827 on a 4Gb card. However, this does not answer as to why the camera will show only 670 shots available on a clean formatted card, when it should be showing 827. Also, it doesn't count down when shots are taken. Turning the camera off and on, it will show 827, then revert to 670. It is an intermittent fault and I am waiting for a reply from Pentax Tech Help.

Those are JPEG numbers? On my k100d i get ~750 on a 8gb and ~370 on a 4gb when shooting raw...
