K10D Shake Reduction Help

Hi guys, I'm using a Super Takumar 1:2/55 on my K10D, and I decided to test out the shake reduction feature. The option was grayed out in the menu, so I looked it up in the manual and it said to change the little button at the bottom left to "On", so I did. It was still grayed out, so I did some more reading (I'm very reluctant to read), and I saw that I needed to press the shutter release button halfway down. However, I can't do that. I keep trying to press it very lightly, and it feels as if nothing's happening at all. If I press any harder, it takes a picture. Am I doing something wrong? Sure seems that way!

EDIT: Really sorry guys, my "not going to read anything" habit caused this one. I had to say "set aperture ring" to permitted. Sorry about that! Wish I could delete the post.
