Dude wheres my light meter (I've forgotten how these things work..)

Long time between drinks! Hope you have all been well.

It's the Holiday season, meaning I time to dust of the cameras and you know, have time to oneself. Luxury!

18months ago I bought a 5D to play with, since lent to a mate and the K5, sitting idly beckons from the dark draw. It's been a good 24months since I've had the batteries in this thing... oh my memory.

Now the point, non A lenses on the K5 (M42's M's K's etc etc) other then moving the DOF preview button to turn the light meter on, did I ever enjoy the light meter staying on in the view finder?

In M mode, the 5D certainly left the light meter on so I could asses the scene and adjust shutters and apertures, but on the K5..

The Magic green button certainly judges the scene and sets the shutter, but I feel like the meter used to stay on? It was handy when measuring different parts of the scene to decide final exposures... holding the DOF preview open doesn't feel like something I used to do...

Have I lost the marbles?

Cheers,

#Edit turns out I have! It's only been 12months between clicks. My oh my oh my.

When in M mode, my K-5 metering graph shows itself for adjustment. However, it does not remain on if there is no activity either by making changes or if not, you must keep re-hitting the shutter button half press to re-activate the info panel. Perhaps in menus there is a setting to make it stay on longer. But this is with regular AF lenses (or "A" lenses). With those old non-"A" MF lenses, one has to use the green button to get centered metering, and it won't be the multi-segment/matrix type.

Ah ok.

You have confirmed what I'm experiencing. Time to re-learn this thing now that is out of the way.

Cheers Mike.
