So difficult to find

I've been looking for an *ist model, from the DS to the DS2 or the DL, but I haven't had any luck so far. I've put ads on here and I've been checking KEH, but I've yet to find any that are even close to reasonably priced. Does anyone have any hidden gems of places to find one of these?

Pentax ist*DS Digital SLR comple with 3 Micro Lens and 2 Telescopic

It's got lenses with it but you could sell them to offset the cost.

Why so hot on the trail of an *ist? They're very good cameras, but obviously they are missing the shake reduction of the K10/100 onward along with some other features. I had a DL that I bought a few years ago, and recently sold it on ebay with the kit lens for $300 buy-it-now (less if the buyer used microsoft cashback which was available at the time). It went within a few minutes of posting the listing. But I do like my K100D Super and K200D better than I did my DL.

Bottom line, I presume you are checking ebay from time to time? *ist models do pop up.

Not to mention most used ones have probably come close to exhausting the life of their shutters.

If you're gunning for an *ist, I'd keep my eyes out for the DS2, which is the least old and has the big viewfinder of the original DS and D. The DL, unless you can get it for under $100, would not be worth the time it took to place the order given that you can get a K100D for not much more that would be much better in every possible way.

Have you tried craigslist.com? I've seen several during the past months in Denver.

Not really worth looking... DS-s for some reason went up in price, and for what most people are asking for the ones in good condition you can get brand new K-m with all the bells and whistles of K100d + 10mp sensor... Just my 2 cents..

I also have an istDS in great shape you can buy

Let me know if you are interested. I have an istDS that hasn't been used in two years since I got my K10D.

Wouldn't mind selling it.

Here's another DS that I saw for sale in the Marketplace...

Now, it looks like you've got several choices to consider.

Hah, I know what everyone means, but I want an older camera that I don't have to be worried about getting dirty. I have a Canon 30D and want to try out a Pentax camera to see which one I like more. The *ist series are the smallest digital SLRs ever created, and since my Digital Rebel XT was my favorite of Canon although the grip was too small, I figured these cameras would be great to take it's place for so much less.

Then KEH must of had a run on them. Not too long ago (month or 2) they had a bunch of D's and DS's in stock...If I remembe correctly they were in the $190 to $250 range. Apparently they were bought as "stocking stuffers" at that price. Sorry tou missed them I see thay just have a k110 and k20 now

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but don't they (other than the D) have the same body as the K100D and K200D? I'd go with a K100D for the SR, personally. They can be had for very little these days.

The K100D is a redesigned body. I like the design of the *ist models more, without the tacky consumerness appeal of the K100D.
