Can't figure how to use old lens

Please, if someone could take pity on me and help me out I would be so appreciative.

My husband used to be into photography many years ago. He had an old K1000, with several lenses and flashes. I just bought him a K110, because what I read said it would be compatible with his old lenses. I've downloaded the manual and am working my way thru it.
But, my husband is impatient and wants to take pictures NOW! He can't get it to work with any of the old lenses though. It will flash and take pictures with no lens, but as soon as we put one on, it doesn't work.
If someone could explain to me how to get these to work or refer me to something I could read that would explain it in laymans term, I would appreciate it. I did find a compatibility chart, but didn't understand it.

His photography knowledge goes back over 20 yr. ago in art school and I'm a point and shoot kinda gal, so we are way out of our element here!

Thanks!

He has to go into the custom setup menu and enable using the aperture ring. Then with the camera in M mode and his aperture set on the lens he has to press the AE-L button to meter the scene and set the shutter speed.

See pages 103 and 184 of the manual.

Hi Brydean,

As Mike has said, sounds like you need to set the camera for manual aperture to start with.

Its been mentioned a few times in the forum, and there is a good demo of it here, and this PF thread may be of help as well

Hope you both have lots of fun with your new camera!

Thank you both so much! We have it working now! Still have a long way to go to figure out exactly how to work and adjust it. But we're on our way!

I'll be reading alot on these forums. But at least now I can get him to put it down for the night and go to bed, since it is 1:30 am here!

Thanks!
