fliter size?

Can a step down conversion be used on the 18-55 kit lens for dslr cameras? I was thinking of Using some 49mm filters i was given. Does the step down ring show up in pictures?

It would in some, not others, depending on focal length and aperture.

Even though the lens is 52mm for filters, Marc is right. Without testing, the lens should be fine at focal ranges around 35-55mm but will likely show some significant vignetting from around 30mm to 18mm. It has a tendency to vignette without any filters at 18mm when wide open. So you'll see dark corners in wider shots.

Welcome to the forums as well.
