Hi!
Just got a used ist DL for Xmas. Worked fine for two days, but then it only make black photos. All menus and mechanics work, it seemes, but it only take black shots of aprox 175 kb, when a normal picture is 1Meg. Tried different memorycards, updating the firmware with no effect!
Any clue out there?

Few things to try as I have not had this problem with my istDl:

1. I would reset camera to factory defaults (which I think should be done when you upgraded firmware)

2. Try different lens. Maybe it stops down the aperture?

3. Check if the mirror goes up when pressing shutter button.

I used to have this problem with my D1. It was a battery issue. Even though the icon showed full or 1/2, there was not enough umpp in them. Camera mechanic's worked as did menus.

Try new batteries.Don't use regular AA's.
