I think the OP has hit on something here that people have not really addressed, but also has some errors.

First of all, to state the posts here are by collectors and equipment junkies (pixle peepers amd measurbaters perhaps) is in some ways correct, especially in the DSLR, SLR, and lens forums, although there are a LOT of good and useful threads there also,

BUT.........

Just look at the photo gallery, and the post your photo's forums. There are some truely great shots posted there by serious photographers. Many of these photographers are the same photographers that occasionally rant about deficiencies in the equipment.

What it shows, in this forum is that part of taking a great photo is also understanding the equipment, including all the shortcomings.

So while the tech forums have many critical comments about the equipment, this helps every one understand exactly how these cameras work, and in the process they actually make better photographers out of every one.
Well good point.

I agree every single word you say exept one fact.

It's correct that camera and gear have improved much photographers, but don't forgett that it have destroyed many talented photographers.
I know a lot of people that was great and loved photography but in the same minute they was start worry and mind too much about the gear, the world fall down, and the photographcarrier was over. So yeah, you are right in very much you said. But ...

Regards Emil

What you talk about is the obsession with performance as opposed to the obsession with excellent images.

Personally, I don't know anyone who suffers as you mention, but I am sure they exist. The fact is they have become distracted by the technology.

I don't mean to gripe, but can we keep things like "epic fail" and "for the win" and other catch phrases to a minimum? I love that most people here take the time to write properly, nice change from most boards.

If you actually say that in person, I'd expect you to have a scraggly neckbeard and no girlfriend.

I assume that one can *think* they're cool and be a nerd. Or vice versa.

btw, my 12 year old son currently favors "failgasm" over "epic fail" and the derivatives.
