I'm simply asking what the aperture and shutter speed were. You said they were displaying in the viewfinder just fine - I'm wondering what in fact they were. If, for example, the shutter speed was 1/4000 and the aperture f/16, well no wonder your pictures are black! Then the question would be, why were you getting shutter speed 1/4000 and aperture of f/16. Might be something wrong with the meter. On the other hand, if the shutter speed and aperture were reasonable values - values that if you had set yourself using the aperture ring and dial in "M" mode would have resulted in normal pictures - this would suggest the meter is fine, but somehow the camera is not actually taking pictures using the settings it says it is going to use. Maybe the shutter is messed up, or the mechanism that stops the lens aperture down.
