wrong. the K200D has wireless flash. the only *ist series camera to have wireless flash was the *istD.

Which is I why I went with the D, professional controls, wireless flash, etc etc. It even uses CF cards like the Canon!

Thanks to everyone who responded to my question. To everyone else, really, I don't want to stay with Canon. After 4 DSLR bodies I really don't like Canon. I've decided that, so please stop telling me to stick with them. Also, I want the DS because it's an older camera. That's the point. I don't want the K10D or the K20D, I want the DS or the DL, because they're old and I don't have to worry about taking them to everyday places. When I get the money, I'll get the K10D and keep the DS or DL as a backup. I wanted to start with one like that to make sure that I'm going to even like Pentax in the first place.

If the DS is anything like my DL2, then it'll be a lot of fun -- as long as you can accept its flaws and idiosyncrasies as part of its character! The *ist series cameras are scrappy little suckers. Not very fast at all but can take some abuse (you may need to prod it to do what you need).

It's like getting used to having a new pet around.

Also, if you're concerned about the size of the LCD, you could try to find a DS2 which is essentially the same as the DS except for a 2.5 inch LCD.

I'm with Paene--why don't you look for a DS2 and get 1/2" more in screen size?

I checked KEH and they have a DS body for $189.00. You can't beat that with a stick.
KEH Camera: Pentax Digital - Camera Bodies - IST DS 6.1 M/P BODY ONLY (SD CARD ) DIGITAL SLR INTERCHANGEABLE LENS CAMERA

The DS was my first body--other than the funky e-dial, it was a great starter body. With PMA announcements not too far off, it might not hurt to wait on getting a more expensive body until we find out what Pentax has up their sleeve.

To those of you who don't agree with the OP's thinking, we need to respect his choices and be supportive, whichever direction he wants to go in.

Screen size...

That was one thing I was dreading when switching brands. I went from the nice bright K20D screen to the pretty outdated one on the 1Ds2. But if anything, it made me chimp less and I spend more time at the viewfinder now.

I didn't think to include the K-m. I own one but I was assuming from his Kxxx thing here, that he meant a K1/200 series knowing that the K-m has it. that and of course K2000 has one extra x. Kxxxx.

in what ways? is it just the overall look? the size? the layout? I'm actually quite interested to know.

The silver outline and the lack of a top LCD, mostly.

Hi, Séamuis!

I know what you mean but the sense of what the Canon owner said was that "since no Canon cameras of reasonable pricing has wireless flash no inexpensive Pentax ones can have either". I mean I won't expect too much subtlety from a person that gave up Pentax long a go and comes here from time to time to expain in some very polite terms that our system is junk.

Regards,
Radu
