Happy 20th birthday *istD

Just realized that this week marked the 20th anniversary of my purchase of this great little camera,

Although it does not get much use these days, it still works after all these years (excluding a few hot pixels)

Who else still has theirís

Yes, I still have an ISTDL that I bought on a whim. It works perfectly, although I don't know how much life the shutter has left, it already has 30,000 shots.

Congratulations on the anniversary! You might want to visit this recent thread, too, for more context about the *ist D: Pentax 20 years ago: "A Date to Remember" - PentaxForums.com

thanks, i saw that, but really focused more on the relevance to the film body, not the DSLR. I got mine the first week it was available in Toronto area stores if i recall correctly.

Congratulations on the 20th anniversary of your istD. I do have a working copy but it wasn't acquired until recently at a bargain basement price used. Still a fun camera to play around with (love those old CCD sensors). I didn't get into Pentax gear until the K100D Super, which I no longer have unfortunately.

I still have mine but it isn't quite 20 yet - manufacture date 19th Dec 2003. I bought it in April 2004. For the first 18 months I shot jpegs as memory was very expensive and pef files huge (13MBs!) but I think I didn't have any way to process pef files back then either. For holiday photos I bought a portable CD writer to hold each day's shooting and allow me to clear the CF card for the next day. That card was an IBM 1GB Microdrive which cost about £300, I still have it and it still works.

Wow 20 years on, I still use mine with my bellows and old pentax ring flash, the TTL works so well with this setup and older macro lenses

I don't have any *istD, but I do have an *istDS. Mine too has some noticable hot pixels, but those are easy to correct in raw development.

I did think I killed mine two days ago, after spraying contact cleaning in the control wheel to fix the somewhat common issue where it changes values in random directions when you spin the wheel. It sprayed faster than planned and then the camera wouldn't power on after putting the batteries back. It came back to life around 24 hours later though

My *istD is a relatively recent purchase, acquired "economically" due to "battery problems" ... a set of eneloops cured that
I take it out every few weeks for a couple of hours and revel in it's sheer simplicity, yet it still has the two e-dials for that extra flexibility!

My first Pentax DSLR was my *istDS in 2005. It served me well for nearly 10 years, until I "updated" to my K-5, but is currently my default M42 body, so it's not retired ... just taking things easier!

I bought my *istD at release. I lent it to my brother when I bought my K-7 & he still has it on more or less permanent loan. It was a very nice camera. I was using a Z-1 & MZ5n at the time. I took some great photos with it.
