Sell K10D to fund K20D....

Or wait it out? I figure the going rate for a K10D is about $400 and the K20D is about $700 so it's gonna cost me a net of $300...

What say yee the masses?

Hi Buddha,

To me, yeah, no brainer....

Welcome to ISO 3200, and about +.5 EV additonal PP compensation that you didn't have with the K10D.. Pretty cheap, for USD$300... Even today.

Buddha,
Hang on to the K10, Save up the cash, then buy the 20. I enjoy the option of having 2 bodies.
Just my opinion.

That's a hard call to make without being able to read your mind.

I voted for you to wait, as PMA is in March and I would assume that Pentax will be rolling out the newest models then. Once you've got some specs for the K20's successor in hand, you'll be able to better determine if the successor is worth the extra money you'd be spending over the price of a new K20.

Only flaw there, is the the K20D's successor will NOT be in the $700's.
Wasn't the K20D like $1400 MSRP when releases? It's sitting at $999 MSRP right now, and we all know it will take a while for the "K30D" or whatever it will be named, to drop to sub-$1000 range.

You pay a premium for the new model... I would go for the K20D and sell (or keep) the K10D, assuming there are features there you are looking for!

I just did that...depends why you want it. I wanted the pc sync port and lens adjustments. You get roughly an extra stop of ISO performance (I'm ok w/ using ISO800 indoors now). Live view is fairly useless (it's pretty fuzzy zoomed in).
I'm finding that I actually prefer the sharper/"digital" look of the K10D so far, but I've only had it a few days.

The K10D body is more like $350-375 now though...look at KEH prices.
The lucky ones sold it for $550 back in September...

At this point, I'm planning on skipping the K30 unless I can trade up for under $200 ;-)

I say, "wait wait wait". At least that's what I keep telling myself. I almost gave in a couple times but my K10D is still giving me great pictures and my lens focuses just fine. So a new K20D would only give me one more stop of ISO. I don't think that'll make me as happy as, let say, a new DA200/2.8 would.

Besides we have waited this long, lets see what March has to offer then decide.

I have both, and never grab the K10 unless I'm taking a picture of my K20...

I really can't believe I see *ist selling for almost as much as the K10

I paid full price for both of my cameras from a local camera shop. So for me to sell my K10 would be like getting kicked in the nuts. I figure I can get a few more years out of it, and it will still be in the 300 dollar range.

I say get the K20, you will not be unhappy... you have all the glass, get something to challenge it...

IMO! 14.6mp APS-C is about as good as lenses can get IQ wise. Anything more, and you're just doing lab work.

I disagree with you on the Live View; I use it successfully, a lot. It is particularly important to me during Macro shooting. While it is rudimentary, it does enable precise focus if you use it carefully and discerningly. It also enables better manual focus on older Pentax lens options.

How much have you used the Live View?

Get the K20. At $700 it's a steal...I paid double & feel as though I received more camera than I paid for. Buy it, enjoy it and post some pics from your new CMOS sensor.

Wait

for the next model and see what that is about.
If it's any good, the price of the K20D will drop.
By the way, the price is still going down over here: another €40 off this week.

And as always: think before you leape and then, think again.

On the other hand, if money is no object, you should already have had a K20D by now .

I purchased the K20 with the idea of selling the K10. Haven't put the K10 on the market yet though.

I did however vote wait unless you can get a killer deal like I did. Cameta was selling their cameras for 779 and I purchased with $200 mircosoft cashback and 10% ebay coupon.

But March is right around the corner and the prices of the K20 are still dropping.

I needed a second body so just last week I decided to get the K20D. Now this is my primary and the K10 becomes the secondary/backup. I held out this long debating on waiting for the new body, but realized that if I'm waiting for the K20D to go down to my affordable range, what makes me think I could immediately afford the new one? So I agree with others - the new camera will not be worth anywhere near the current price of a K20D, so holding out for price isn't an option.

I got mine from Beach Camera for $730 shipped, with the 2 yr ext. warranty, a free 4 GB Class 4 SDHC card, and a small Pentax carry case (has already come in handy to lug around just the camera and a lens.

I agree. Sooner or later you'll appreciate having a second body.
