They should just ask people to submit a JPEG straight out of the camera. The EXIF info includes the shutter count...

That would be a greater idea. Becasue now one idiot can destoy the whole medium-value

Not really hard to modify....

actually it is not an MTBF as T stands for time. There is no MTBF quoted for the camera.

What is commonly quoted is the specified life in terms of the number of operations. It is not a gaurantee. The gaurantee is strictly for obvious defects in workmanship and design which become apparent within 1 year from purchase, and does not cover the life of the shutter, except that if you take 500,000 shots in the year and when the shutter fails, pentax probably has no obligation to repair it.

true, but it adds an extra step to keep some of the kiddies out of the stats
