Trouble downloading K10D firmware

I am attempting to download K10D firmware and making no progress. In reading forums, have come to understand that I should avoid Version 1.3. Have also tried to install 1.1 with no luck. Followed all directions. Nothing happens. Any and all help appreciated. Thanks.

Your message isn't very clear, moster. Are you having problems downloading the firmware off the Pentax website or installing the firmware in your camera? If you're having problems downloading the software, try a different Pentax website, such as the UK website or the English language website in Japan. The firmware is exactly the same world-wide.

If you're having problems installing the firmware, make sure the memory card works with your camera by taking a few sample images first, that the memory card is completely empty of all data before installing the firmware file, that the firmware update file (FWDC162B.BIN) is installed in the very top level of the memory card, that your camera battery is fully charged before starting, and that you hold the MENU button down long enough to see the "NOW LOADING" message (release the MENU button immediately afterwards).

The update process is complete when you see the memory card light on the camera flashing (a reminder to remove the memory card). Turn off the camera, remove the memory card, and delete the firmware update file or reformat the card before using the memory card for anything else.

If neither of these resolve the problem, please reply with a better description of the problem itself.

By the way, no reason to specifically avoid firmware version 1.30. It just offers no overwhelming benefit without SDM lenses attached to the camera.

go figure

On the 10th try or so, finally got the downloaded file to go to the SD card, hence to the camera. Thanks everyone.

Glad to hear it, moster. Updating the firmware is a step-by-step process which must be followed to the letter with no deviations. Even holding a button too long, or not long enough, can cause problems. On a plus note, now that you've got it figured out, any further updates you might choose to install should go a lot easier.

Personally, I'd recommend installing firmware version 1.30 since that includes all the previous firmware updates in a single file, and may actually be the last update you'll have to install in the K10D since Pentax doesn't appear to be coming out with another firmware update for this particular camera.
