Calling all K200D Owners----please read

I have just recently purchased (last week) a new K200D.

I would like to hear from others in the forum as to the loudness (or faintness) of the beep function on your particular camera.

With mine, the beep is just BARELY audible---as a matter of fact, you actually have to put your ear right up next to the camera just to hear it. It is SLIGHTLY louder with the lens removed (I tested it with the self timer enabled) so that I could locate the source of the beeper. It is actually located somewhere behind the reflex mirror.

Could everyone with this model please let me know if the audibility of the beep is the same with yours? Or, do I have a defective camera (or defective beeper actually---everything else functions perfectly.

Thank you in advance for your responses.

Ferdy

I have a K200D also and am still learning all the functions etc. In the setup I have the beep turned off. you can set it to only beep on certain functions also. Are you sure the beep is turned on?

Of course it is. Every available "beep" function is enabled in the setup menu. Didn't you read that I tested it using the self timer function? It beeps alright--it is the volume that I am concerned about. I just want to know from others about the loudness (or the faintness) of the beep on their particular cameras. I have a ZX-7 film model and it has a VERY audible beep. If this is the norm for the K200D (or the rest of the Pentax digital lineup) I would like to know.

Thank you for your response.

Have you ever heard the beep from a ZX-7? Is it comparable to that dB level?

never heard one sorry (this is my first SLR)

i was using it on a tripod set only about 60cm from the ground yesterday and was able to hear it while standing (im 180cm tall).

i had a flower in focus, blowing about a little in the wind, every time it rested back into focus it beeped.

Mine too is very quiet. I have it set for In-Focus and find it handy for manual lenses(which is all I have). I can only really hear it when I'm close to the camera or if there is little other noise.

Before I turned my beeps off, I'd say they sounded normal - about like the way lots of digital watches beep on the hour.

The beep was sufficiently audible until I turned it off for good.

There is a hexagon in the viewfinder that confirms focus. Even in case your camera is defective, perhaps, fixing the beep is not worth the hassle, if eventually you are going to turn off the darn thing.

It's quieter than my previous DSLRs from other brands, but it is not close to being "inaudible" on mine.

I have never had a problem hearing the beep on the K200D. It may not be the loudest compared to some cameras, but I actually like it this way - the subjects cannot usually hear it.

I turned mine off right away so it never had a chance to beep. I've never thought to ask before so I will here. What's the advantage of the beeper again other than focus confirmation?
