Pentax K10D at Lumas Galleries

I have an exhibition of Limited Edition images at Lumas Galleries in New York, Germany and worldwide over the internet. They just contacted me. They wish to expose four of my images from the "Divine Inspiration" series shot with the Pentax K10D that will be blown up, as usual to 1.20 x.0.80 meters. They are 171 mega per image. Now if that is not a thumbs up for the K10D and it's quality, I don't know what!

Ben

What did you/they use to up-size the image that large? I printed some 20"x30" shots for a local pastry shop (from my 6-mp *ist DS, no less) and I was disappointed with them - I attribute it to poor up-sizing on my part, using Photoshop CS2.

As I did for all of the images being exposed at Lumas Galleries, I up-sized them in PS2 using Bicubic Softer and upsizing in three stages. They ask for a 200 dpi print out. The quality is really quite surprising. The artist proofs they sent me for my first group of 10 images x 100 were at 1.20 x 0.80 meters they were shot with the Canon 10D and were amazing. I get to keep the No.1 artist proofs. Printed on High Gloss Fuji Paper. Imagine the quality on the K10D. I added a bit of unsharp mask at the end at 0.3 pixels at 120 to 180 percent.

It really depends on the output. As I stated on several occasions, viewing distance is very important. One of the images I shot on the Canon 10D was blown up to 5 x 3 meters or about 20 x 12 feet. No problem. It was at 25 dpi.

That's interesting, I might have guessed that you used something other than Photoshop. I did not learn about the step method until after I got the prints. I wonder if anyone has done any tests against (for example) Genuine Fractals to see if they can get even better results.

Congratulations on your selection.

Ben, How long is your show running in NYC? I'd like to go see it but the next couple of weeks are pretty hectic for me. Will it still be on after Easter? (4/8/07)
I notice that Lumas in down in Soho, but fortunately on the east side so it's pretty easy for me to get to. But that is still a 3 hr train ride there and back.

Thanks Ben, I'll get downtown one of these days and poke my head in there. It's not too far away from some of my favorite downtown stomping grounds. In fact I used to work right around the corner from the gallery.
