I'm an ACDSee guy myself, but sure, LR. Aperture, Picasa, and lots of other programs all provide the sort of tools you'd need to catalog your images. What's really most important s a first step is hving a good *strategy*. And here I cannot recommend highly enough "The DAM Book" by Peter Krogh.

Thanks for all the info. There seems to be a lot of alternatives, I guess the best way is to pick one and figure out how to best use it.
