DOF preview on K20D ????

Hi all

I'm having a problem checking the DOF preview on my K20D.

I've set the preview method to 'Optical Preview' in Custom Setting but I'm having no joy seeing the DOF preview. If I hold the shutter button down while turning the main switch to 'Preview' the viewfinder goes black.

I am an old fart and I know I'm doing something incredibly dumb

Any help appreciated.

With optical preview you don't hold the shutter button down. Just set the f stop you want to check the DOF at and then turn the tab (the one in front of the shutter button) to the right. The screen will darken and that will vary depending on the aperture selected. First try a lens that is wide open at f2.8 for example and set it to f5.6. The screen will darken some but you'll still be able to see OK in decent light. Next try a smaller aperture (larger number) and it will be even darker.

You should also hear the aperture blades close when you do this.
