Darnit I broke down!!!

First came the K110d... then later I picked up a used K100d... been using them a few years and love them.

It just had to happen... I got my end of year "unused sick days" check from work today, broke down and finally ordered a K20d...

Now I just have to get one or two spare batteries and I'll be all set

Isn't it fun to be able to buy a new camera and not worry one teeny bit about lenses?
Congrats!

Congrats. You'll love it. Of course you'll want to get the grip, and then the DA* lenses to go with it!

Congrats! I got a similar check but wasted it on heating oil.

Must be nice!
I only get my "unused sick days" cheque when I retire.........still 15 years from now!!
And then, only HALF of them.
No wonder all the senior guys at my workplace take a lot of sick time in their last years!

Congrats on your purchase Pat.
Hope all works out well for you!

Stgmgr ... They pay our unused sick days yearly to encourage us to not use them. A nice big "extra paycheck" in january after the holidays is often more tempting than booking days off during the year

Reeftool ... Ouch, I feel your pain buddy... fortunately I heat with electricity (which is cheap here). I can't imagine heating with oil with the current prices...

wtlwdwgn ... I was thinking of ordering the grip with it, but I almost never do portrait orientation shots so I am not too sure what use I'd have for the grip.

Ror ... Indeed, I'll probably give my k110d and the kit lens to my sister... my brother in law has old pentax lenses. Backwards compatibility just rules.

Amazing to be able to cash in your sick leave. Mine has accrued over the years and have over 250 days, which I loose if I leave.

We can cash in our Long Service & Annual.

I upgraded from the K100D to the K20D. It was well worth it. You will be very happy with you new toy.

In the UK there are a lot of jobs that do not even get sick pay and with the rest it is yearly .. if you don't use it you lose it.

Kevin & Mike ... In my line of work, if someone calls in sick they *must* be replaced and it creates overtime costing the city a lot. So to encourage us to not use our sick days, they pay off the unused ones at the end of the year. Trust me, this benefits the city more than us as they save a lot of money this way.

Frank ... I am quite eager to receive it I just hope it will be really worth the massive price difference (though for the higher megapixes sensor alone it would be worth it as I like to crop pics).

Heli ... Thanks, do you use the K20 when flying? It's not too heavy?

Yves ... He he he yeah I know, at least LBA hasn't hit me too badly (though one of these days I'll have to get a bigma...)

Nah, I've fired my dSLR while flying, but I didn't even look through the viewfinder. The helicopters I fly are too unstable/touchy to be left unattended while working the camera... I use my P&S while flying as I can shoot it one handed.

I retired from the government on 13 May 2006 after 41 years of service. At that time, I had 2,310 hours of sick leave that could be counted toward retirement time. So, I was able to count 2,080 hours as an additional year of service (+2% retirement). The remaining 230 hours were divided into 30-day months (230/30 = 7.6666.....) rounded down to 7 months giving me 42 years and 7 months. I was able to take the remaining days off (great boss), so I didn't lose anything. Was also able to sell 563 hours of annual leave at my hourly rate, and they took almost 1/3 of the $$$ as taxes!!! My wife took the remaining 2/3.
