"White balance. The white balance setting on the camera has no effect whatsoever on the captured pixels when you shoot raw—it’s simply recorded as a metadata tag in the raw file. Some raw converters can read this tag and apply it as the default white balance (which the user can then override if desired), while others may ignore it completely and analyze the image to determine white balance."

So do the DNG or PEF raw files coming from K10d record white balance setting metadata tag that can be read in CS2 and apply as default?

For me one of the biggest challenges is getting color exact without messing around. Pre-setting white balance really helps for JPEGS. I am somewhat confused if this same procedure helps for RAW files.

Yes the WB is a tag in the PEF/DNG; yes, it should be the 'as shot' menu item in ACR.

Capturing WB information when specifically saving images as PEF/DNG is a good starting point. It's applied to the JPEG previewed on the camera LCD if you have it set to show or you recall images for review. (And then in ACR as 'as shot'.)
