Would anyone like to guess what they think the price of the Pentax 645D will come in at? Could be interesting to see who has really good intuition...

I think I'm really lowballing this - $9500 CDN? The film body goes for $3300...

EDIT - I'm poking at street prices, not manufacturer's suggested retail price.

That's a tough one Ben. I've seen estimates ranging from $5,999.00 all the way up to $25,000.00. Trying to read between the lines of what marketing people from Pentax have said, I would think they wanted to bring it in at $6,499 MSLR and a street price just under $6,000.00. That was with an18mp sensor. Now they have a 31 mp sensor and the game changes. My guess is $7,499.00 MSLR and a street price of a shade under $7,000.00. That price would make them an immediate mega player.

I'd have to go along with Ken. But I'm wondering if they will put out a "stripped down" 18 mp model also. Sort of like what they did with the K100D and the K110D. If that's the case I'd say the cheaper one would come in at 4999.00, just to be under the 5G mark.

I will guess between $9500 and $9995.00.

I think Pentax will TRY to keep it under the $10,000 mark if they can.

if they really want market share, below $5.6k would be a good seller

~2.4k for sensor,
~1.7k for body

~4.1k MFG

in reality, times 3x = ~ 12.5k

I saw some of Taiwanese photography magazines here interviewing some Pros in Japan. The price is not yet determined because of the competitions cameras have not yet announced their prices either.

The speculation is quoted about 5000 to 7000 US dollars together with 645 DA* 55 f2.8

That is why I had stopped bidding any more k mount lenses

looking at the price of digital back in the same pixel league, I would guess around 9,000 american on the low side, 12,000 on the high side body only

Well..Yes, I was told as soon as it comes out they will give me one. However, i'll still use DSRL's for most of my magazine work, as i am sure by the time I do the show in October at the "Salon des Photos" (PMA for France) that they will have some other trinkets to play with. Looking forward to that time. But in the here and now, I am really enjoying my K10D's...

My guess is that it will be well under 8K. I think that they will need to be well under because the competition (Blad and Lief sp?) will have their scaled down versions hitting the shelf on or about the same time...or perhaps just shortly afterwards. And they are looking at sub 10K for theirs. Personally, I think the shock will come from a much lower sticker price than higher.
