Autofocus conversion of MF lenses

I just read an interesting article that had some info I'd not seen
before on the K100D. The article made mention of a package I've not seen advertised of the camera with 2 kit lenses - the 18-55
I'd already seen and another zoom that was 70-200 or thereabouts.
Also the article mentioned an available adapter/1.7 teleconverter
that fits pentax manual focus lenses to the camera and makes them autofocus. Has anyone seen this? Sounds like a cool gizmo!
The article is worth reading anyway, if your a Pentax fan - it was
so pro K100D - you'd wonder if the writer had a stake in the company!

I have the Rear converter 1.7 F. It is a very cool devise. works well with all lenses f4.0 and above. I haven't tried it with my A400 f5.6 yet.

Unfortunately, it is no longer being manufactured and Ebay prices have gone through the roof. I paid about US$230 for mine about 3 months ago, the last one I saw about 3 weeks ago went for well over US$300 on the bay.

If you add that to the cost of the lens, I'm not sure it is a good value. You could probably purchase a good AF lense in the same FL range for about the same money. But if you already own good MF primes, like A* lenses, it could very well be worth it.

They state at the end of the article:

"Apparently, Pentax has restarted production of the AF 1.7x converter. A few of these are coming to Slovenia this week. We will bring you more news on that from Photokina."
So, maybe some good news?

I have the 1.7x adapter myself and it works really well for me. One thing where it is really usefull is as a macroadapter. Combined with a 50 macro it will give very good results as with this image I took:

I don't know the English name, but it's some kind of moth...

Maybe someone can give me the correct name?

Yes indeed, if they have restarted production, that would be good news. This the first I've heard of this though.

I've never had any good luck with TCs. The image degradation I exerienced was very disapointing, especially as I see work from others that are very good.

This is the first TC I've owned that does a very good job.
