Flash Compensation on *ist D

I had a question about how to dial in flash compensation on my *ist D. I don't think anyone has discussed this before, and the instruction manual is pretty useless. It seems with the built in flash, I can just change my exposure compensation, with the flash raised, and it functions as flash compensation. However, with my external flash (Vivitar 880 AFP; similar to Sigma EF-500 Super not DG) this does not seem to work.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

For external flash you need to set up Flash-EV on flash body, not on camera.

Thanks for the info. That sucks, since my flash always kinda overexposes at ISO800. Oh, well. Time for a new flash.
