Pentax K100D Fireware update problems

I'm hoping someone can help me with this I've tried everything I can think of...

I've been trying to update my Pentax K100d firmware from v 1.00 to v 1.02 using the update on the Pentax page.

Pentax Canada - K100D

The instructions seem simple enough...I insert a new blank 8gb SDHC card into my card reader, put the .BIN file on the card, eject, insert it into the camera and turn the camera on while holding down the Menu button.
Instead of the 'Update Firmware? Yes/No' option your supposed to get my camera pauses for about 10 seconds and then starts up and displays 'Firmware V 1.00' and then says 'Memory card error'
I've tried using two different 8gb SDHC cards and tried it on my iMac and a PC and still no luck?
Can anyone help?

P.S. I'm a bit confused by the update itself, if says that the firmware update adds SDHC compatibility, but then says I need to put the update on an 8gb card (which would have to be SDHC) so then how is the camera supposed to read it?

The instructions say 8 MEGABYTES (or more!) for the SD card

So yeah using an 8GB SDHC won't work

I think I still have some old 128MB cards sitting around somewhere

You'll need to use a smaller capacity SD card. These typically are 4 GB or less. You can pick a 1 or 2 GB at any retail store that carries any type of media (blank CDs, DVD, VCR tapes, etc.). Using a SDHC card will give an error because your camera doesn't recognise it.

1) K100D with firmware 1.00 does not support SDHC cards. It's an 1.02 software that supports them

so you need SD card (2 gb or less)

2) Check you have K100D, not K100D super. K100D Super is different camera.

Yes of course it's 4.2MB not GB, Pentax's page threw me off when they said an SD card with minimum 8MB. I don't even think in MB anymore!

I've got the k100d super with v1.00 firmware.. does it mean the v1.02 firmware does not apply to this model?

The Super already had SDHC support built in. No need for a firmware updated.
