new K100D user; Rawshooter help

Hi

I have the 2006 version of Rawshooter Essentials from my ist DL days.
Have recently moved onto K100D and am stuck as my RSE is not compatible with the K100D.
The suggested links I found on the web are not available any more.
Please help with an easy solution (? other than Picasa).
Or is that a pipe-dream (free... easy solution)?

thanks!

Adobe acquired Pixmantec and therefore RSE.

Looks like you have the last Free version of RSE -
and unfortunately that does not support .PEF (K100D RAW files).

For Free solutions - seems like the supplied Pentax Photo Lab is actually quite good since it is based on Silkypix (see post at dpReview ) Current version is 3.61
( DOWNLOAD BROWSER/LAB 3 UPDATE FOR WINDOWS XP/Vista (37.3 MB))

Doing a minimal google for "Pentax RAW Editor" - I came across Able RAWer that claims to be a RAW editor/corrector/converter - whether it does any better than Pentax Lab 3 - I do not know - as I have only just found it.

Able RAWer page

EDIT to ADD -
Another thought -
You may be able to continue to use RSE -
by converting the .PEF files to Adobe's DNG -

Adobe DNG converter download page (35.1Mb)

Cool! if you do, please let us know how it works out -
and if possible how your new workflow compares with RSE?

Thanks.

I use a great program called RawTherapee. Its free unless you want to donate, and handles .PEF files quite well. Oh, and it has noise reduction built in. If you are on Mac/Linux Raw Studio is a great(!) program for RAW editing. good luck!

Last I looked RAWSHOOTER won't do DNG's unless the camera is supported, which yours is not.
There are people who hacked the software BUT it isn't straightforward.

The directions should be around DPR somewhere but |I have no time to find it...s

FOUND IT (partially):

Get a hex editor (google: Cygnus free hex editor (or some other)).

Load the Rawshooter exe into it. Search for "PENTAX".

Change one of the Pentax camera models to K10D and the program will then handle the DNG format of the K10 pictures.
This is well worth the effort. Rawshooter does an excellent job.

....................................
The numbers to the far left are the address of the data. I'm using Rawshooter Pro, and if you're using Essentials they'll be different. So don't worry about them. Put your cursor on the camera models to the right and type over the areas you want to change. If you're using the Cygnus editor I mentioned before, then it defaults to "replace", not insert, which is what you want to do. I'm not sure about other editors. Be careful that you don't "insert" data, which will shift everything after that point and most likely cause the program to fail.

The "space" between PENTAX and K10D is a hex 20, which is ASCII space. That is very different from the dots on the right, which are hex 00.
On the right, if you see: PENTAX DS.....
you would want it to be: PENTAX K10D...

or

if you see: PENTAX *IST DL.....
you would want: PENTAX K10D.....

To get the dots, place your cursor BEFORE the data in the center that you want to change and type in "0". <-- that's a zero
Again, be sure NOT to insert new data. Only replace, don't add.

PROOF:
I have modified my copy of RSP to work with the K100D, the K20D, The Ricoh GR Digital II and I've been very satisfied with colour and demosaicing.

...............
Good luck...
