Well I have owned my K100d for almost twenty months. I use three lenses, kit 18-55, Tamron 70-300 and Sigma 17-70 ( away at Sigma UK to fix de-centering problem).
Apart from the Sigma problem, I am a very happy part time photographer. I use the camera nearly always in aperture priority. I shoot in RAW, develop with Silkypix free version and do the final pp work with PhotoImpact 12.
Now, my problem is that it is all going so well that I feel very little desire to upgrade either my camera or any of the lenses. Have I reached Utopia or am I just a tired, worn out old bore?

Utopia--enjoy it! I've got a K20D but still use the K100d as a backup/knock about. Like you I pretty much keep it in AV. I bought it in preparation for our trip to England in 2007, btw, and, combined with the Tamron 18-250mm, it really served me well.

I've had the K100 for about 18 mos now and I found a "new" camera when I decided to settle on one good Pentax "normal" prime lens (in this case, the 43mm f/1.9) and put the zoom on the shelf for a while. The fixed FL forced me to learn some things about taking images; it has worked out well. Using one prime lens gives a whole different "feel" to the process and how you can photographically see the world,

It is nice to hear from a happy Pentax owner. There are a lot of us out there, but usually people write only when they have a problem. I bought my K100D in November 2006, and my K110D four months later. I'm very happy with both of them. I used the K100D at our Dog Park today, the K110D to take photos of Comet Lulin the night before.

Don't worry, be happy.
Given that you have used the camera for such a long time already, you are probably not in need of any K100D Tips & Tricks.

I'm still very, very happy with my K100D as well. Sometimes I wish I could crop more without running into resolution limits; a problem that wouldn't occur as early with a higher resolution sensor. But this cases are rare and typically a case of not enough foresight when shooting.

I agree. I have no desire to upgrade (maybe it's just my skill level). It's about 18 months for me as well and couldn't be happier.

It was an all-too quick caravan tour of the West Country (Salisbury, Plymouth, "Insane Ives," Bath, Oxford.) Lovely country! Interesting that
FHPhotographer suggests that you get a good prime like the 43mmm. I quite agree and, in fact, also had that very lens on the trip and it got me low-light indoor shots like this of Buckfast Abbey the zoom could not have. There are other very good but less expensive options, though.

K100D Super to K200D to D80 to XSi to G1 and now K100D Super all within 14 months ...1600 ISO never looked so good. I'm a nut and proud of it.

I've not used it for a while, but that's mainly because I wanted the K10D or K20D for the dual dial wheels to simplify adjustments on the fly. Keep it -- it's a great choice.

I'm glad to see that you're so content with your gear. I bought my first Pentax DSLR in October 2007 and have gone through a lot of buying and selling, but now I'm finally starting to feel content with what I have--we'll see how long that lasts after the PMA announcements.

If you're feeling a small LBA itch, it wouldn't hurt to scratch it at all. The FA43 is an excellent lens, but not cheap at nearly $400 new. If you're looking to spend less, then the FA50/1.4 is an excellent lens for $200 new. For even less, you can pick up another fast autofocus 50 like the FA50/1.7 or F50/1.7 (around $150). If you don't mind manual focus, then the A50/1.7 is an excellent deal at under $100. Besides learning how to get creative using 1 focal length only, these lenses are a good bit faster than what you have, making them great choices for handheld lower light photography.

i have had the K100D for a year now and have been doing most things in film now.

although the K100D is a good camera, to offer some counterbalance, there are some things that really bug me:
-the mirror slap
-the overall slowness of the interface and to review
-the tiny buffer
-auto iso fails on exposure comp
-general underexposure
-should be smaller

the K100 is a good camera Rich, no two ways about it but, the K20 is a totally different beast. Much better in every way.

K100D, it's only two millimeters larger than the DS, which is the smallest DSLR ever made, why do you think it sould be smaller?
