K100D, it's only two millimeters larger than the DS, which is the smallest DSLR ever made, why do you think it sould be smaller?

I wouldn't want it any smaller. It fits just nicely. I also wouldn't want it any lighter. Its weight helps me to keep it steady. Besides, with a small and light lens, the camera/lens combo isn't overly heavy, AFAIC.

Love the sound of it.
I don't do weddings or birding or whatever would require a quieter shutter.

-the overall slowness of the interface and to review

I don't find the interface slow. I agree with Marc though that more buttons/dials on the camera to directly access more functions would be nice. That (and more cropping potential) would be my main motivation to change. But before I spend more money on gear, I first need to develop my capabilities to justify the expense.

-the tiny buffer

Only hit that once when I shot a bird in RAW. Any other time I was fine. But I see that this can be a problem for some.

-auto iso fails on exposure comp

That bugged me first as well but more and more I'm selecting ISO manually instead of leaving it to the camera.

-general underexposure

I hear this very often but really I believe this is a feature. The ratio in which I apply negative compensation vs positive compensation is about 50:1. It may not correctly aim for an 18% value but for me the main thing is to avoid blown highlights. And isn't "underexposure" a trait of all post K100D Pentax camera's too?

I love my K100D Super as well. My only complaints are the smallish viewfinder, the semi-poor auto WB, and the lack of a focus assist lamp. But whatever, it's all good, as they say in America...

Also, maybe I'm crazy but I much prefer the mirror slap sound of the K100D to the K200D, which I don't own but often use at work In fact I have come to prefer the K100D as a whole to the K200D, which is reassuring as I had my doubts about buying an "obsolete" camera when I first got it and the K200D was the new hottest thing out. Good thing I know better now!

Its very good to know I`m not alone in my opinions on the K100d.
I reckon I will enjoy the `Utopia` for a while longer and then maybe buy a K20d. The price is now getting to a very reasonable amount and is very tempting.

Dear god, it's ACHINGLY slow. The time to save a RAW file i slike 4 seconds and flicking from image to image with the histogram makes you want to throw the thing in the lake.

This idea of saving blown highlights is a bit of a red herring. Sometrimes you have to blow highlights to get an overall decent image otherwise you underrexpose too much of the scene. My default is +0.7 ev and I still dial in more exposure in post about 90% of the time.

Let me join the throng in praising the K100D.

For me 6Mp is adequate for most of my uses -
I mean it will do sterling/exhibition quality 10x8 with some room to spare - even the severe crop of getting a vertical image out of a horizional one will still give the oft recommended 200ppi print quality to 10x8.

Most of my shooting ends up sized for the web -
which, as most people will know, even a 1Mp camera will do.

actually a while back, we had some samples from the D90 that were overexposed in comparison the a 10MP pentax (can't remember which one).

i know the technical meaning is that the camera will try to meter 18% gray, but for a camera as advanced as the K100D, i could careless what 18% gray is just expose the shot properly. i always find that if i don't do anything w/ the exposure, i'm always adding at least +.5EV in PP. when i am more conscious about what i'm taking pictures of sometimes i'm up to +2EV to Expose Right

edit: that also reminds me, lack of colour histograms so when i'm Exposing to the Right, i'm not sure if i've blown a colour channel

it's the slap that concerns me more, it decreases handholdability. on the old ZX- bodies for example, those shutters are so smooth, probably gives an extra stop handholdability.

I bought my K100DS when they offered the $100 rebate (last October?) on the kit.

I find that it will serve me well UNTIL I get a lot better at imaging.
I'm currently going through a spell of LBA, just purchased a Tamron 28-75 f2.8 and my Tamron 70-200 f2.8 arrived this past Wednesday (I didn't realize that it would be so BIG).

I use my camera for quite a bit of macro work (coins) using my Vivitar 105 Series 1.

Just to be sure - it is only the last two images and rest of ISO3200 album that were ISO3200 -
the first two very colorful images (of Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi) and the albums were mostly ISO1600 and ISO800.

Don't forget when images are downsized there is auto-corrolation going on - as noise is "random" - it tends to cancel itself out -
so getting from full 3008x2000 down to about 540x360 - is only 18% of the image, less than 1/5 linearly - that's why I can kind of get away with it.

Those ISO3200 images certainly would be able to print at 7x5 fine -
but a full 10x8 may reveal more noise than I'd like -
but then again it is better than NO image at all .......
