What mode are you in?

When I am shooting I mainly use my camera in P mode, mainly because I don't know any better and that is where I get most of my results. Is that O, or am I missing out my not venturing out to the other modes?

m mainly

I'm mostly always in m mode with manual focus lenses too, I think it's cause I'm old fashioned or I just like fooling with the knobs

I prefer Av-mode .... maybe it is a historical reason, but I think mainly it is because I'll want to keep the DOF in my hand. I have made a deal with myself to try and give a shot to the TvAv and HyperModes also (someday). Next time when you ask the answer can be different

Depends on what I'm shooting. I was just out in the back yard shooting my lovely Lilac tree after the morning rain and was in P mode. "P" is my favorite of the auto modes because it can act as Av or Tv mode with the touch of either dial (K10). I just let the camera give me it's quick interpretation and I can quickly agree or make a slight shift. It is also quite easy to add a little comp if needed. I learned photography in Av mode (ME Super) but Hyper Program is pretty dang cool.

When shooting with strobes, doing portraits, product shots, still life, etc, I shoot in M mode. Doing most of these types of work, or anything where my lighting stays the same, I want as much consistency as possible so I don't want the meter changing the settings because it sees a brighter or darker color from one shot to the next. Manual gives me the same exposure every shot, regardless of subject changes.

Well i decided to experiment today, I am making some homemade chicken noodle soup (caught a cold) so i decided to make a photo journal of it. I am shooting it all in AV mode with the AF360 mounted to see what kinda results I will get. I will post the results later, hopefully I start feeling better too.

Mostly Av, it's usually the thing I want to control the most. For my usual subjects I can rely on auto-ISO giving acceptable results and I rarely need to set shutter speed. I've been known to use P mode when I'm in hurry or just plain confused and undecisive.

Almost always Av, because DOF is usually my primary consideration (other than using the lowest ISO I can get away with) For quick outdoor snapshots on a sunny day I'll sometimes use P, but usually Av gives the best balance between control and automation. I've never used the "scene" modes on the K100D -- I'm not really even sure what they do exactly. It kind of annoys me they take up so much precious dial space!!!

I use Av most often with AF lenses - as Finn mentioned, I like to have control over DOF, but with manual lenses (must admit, don't use them too often), "P" works well for me, that "cheater" green button works well for my need (Av prioritized in custom setting), so basically still kinda like Av mode, then I compensate as needed...

D
