is k10d battery grip offering extra AF speed?

extra battery is great when doing panning shots on animals in the wild. I wonder this battery grip that is going to be released in november in japan going to boost the shutter speeds?

And it quotes 25000 yen which is about 250 US dollars. A bit dear i reckon. Not sure what you guys know about?

The grip will boost shot capacity and manouevrability only. The voltage stays the same and so do shutter and af speed.
Grip really is expensive and I'll probably never get one.

thanks your reply. But what do you mean by shot capacity?

I think the only way the shot capacity would be improved is the fact there is to be some storage for SD cards in the grip. this would allow for maybe quick change but the capacity of the card would remain the same. The AF speed will be the same also. Al the battery grip would do is give you sustained power.
It will also help with balance on long and heaver lenses. This was proven to me this weekend as Brendan had the battery grip on his D and it did improve handling and balance.
Good Shooting.

The shot capacity is doubled with the grip. Pentax estimates 500 shots per charge for the camera, and as there is a second battery in the grip, 1000 shots with the grip attached. You can also set in which order the camera uses the batteries.

Adorama has the grip for US$149.95

Thanks for the correction Alan,
i was thinking as shot capacity as the number on the card but now I understand you are thinking shot capacity to battery charge and this would be correct. The more stored power the higher your shot count per charge would be.
Good Shooting.

Hi David,
The neat thing is if you set it to always run off the grip before the camera battery, and you have a couple of spare batteries, you can just change out the grip battery as they deplete and save the camera battery til last. This way you don't have to remove the grip to replace the battery during a shoot.

that sounds like a good deal to me. I hate to run out of batteries like how DS does it to me. Then maybe there is still reason to justify the cost...

thanks all for the comments

I'd like to see a battery shaped module (like Nikon) that takes some sort of lithiums. It's nice to have a last resort battery that doesn't self discharge at all.
