Lately, my K100D has had a problem engaging two of my AF lenses. Primarily the kit lens, and less often with the Sigma 28-80.

The motor sounds like it is searching for the lens. I can sometimes fix it by removing the lens, and then remounting it on the body. Of course, this only happens when I am rushed to catch a time-sensitive shot.

Once it finds the lens, the focus is fine.

Any suggestions? Should I take it to Pentax for repair? The camera is outside of the warranty period.

Did you check the AF-MF switch on the mount? Remove the lens then switch the AF-MF back and forth. The AF motor should pop in and out. I suspect that the AF key might be a little loose. Happened once to me but i couldn't fix it by mounting / remounting. Playing with the AF switch with no lens on it fixes mine though. Hopefully you can determine the problem this way.

Thanks for the suggestion. The AF drive does pop out when I move the switch. I guess I will have to wait and see if the problem occurs again.
