K10D Lens Help / Dark pictures

I currently have the K10d with the kit lens (18-55mm) and have notices all my pictures are dark.

This has been going on since I got it almost a year ago. I actually sent it in to pentax and it came back the same way.

I just placed on an old lens from an old pentax SLR (Sigma 28-200 1:3.8-5.6 72mm) and the pictures seem to be much brigher with the same exact settings.

Here is my question:

I do not like how the older lens cannot focus close like the kit camera, but I do like how it is brigher and the pictures look nicer.

Will the sigma 18-200 DC correct this problem with light so i can use the camera in "Green" mode?

i think the newer sigma DC still has the problem on focusing on close objects 17.7" away.

Is there a lens that could address all these issues?

Any suggestions? I assume it is not the camera because the reviews for it are so good. I have never been happy with it and hope someone can help.

Did you send the whole camera(lens and body to Pentax)? If so what did they have to say? Did you ask them questions? That will be your starting point. Also when you say dark; are these natural light or flash? I assume you are shooting in full "Green" mode. Have you tried other settings? Av, Tv, TAv, and P modes?

Can you post some sample pictures? I'm assuming it is simply a matter of you needing to learn when and how to use exposure compensation to brighten exposures in situations where the camera chooses a lower exposure than you might like (ones with bright background like the sky, ones that include a light source, ones in which the subject is lighter than average, etc). but sample pictures would help determine if perhaps your camera is defective.
