K10D, 540 flash and pocket wizards?

I want to use the pocket wizards to trigger the 540 flash...I noticed the connector on the 540 is a round female connector for 5 or 6 pins or something like that. What type cable would I need to go from the mini plug on the PW to the 540 flash? Thanks.

It is a proprietary cord made by Pentax. You will have to get it from them.

Don't know, maybe you can tell me.

PW have 4 or 32 channels,
they can remote fire a flash,
they can chain to lengthen the flash to camera distance,
they can fire a camera on one channel subsequently firing one or more flashes on a second channel,
you can set one flash or bank of flashes on each channel and select which to fire from the camera.
They seem to have the fastest response time, thereby allowing the fastest shutter speed sync-see the manuals l for more specifics.

I dont think there is a cord to connect a PC socket to the Pentax plug. I don't use my radio trigger with my 540, not directly anyway. I use it with my 285HV and set the 540 to slave. If anyone knows of a PC to Pentax cord I would love to hear about it.

Well, the wireless China trigger fires the flash with less than 1/60sec delay (haven't tested with faster shutter speeds) and can have up to 16 channels. I have single channel version which serves me well. The only thing I'd like to have is more range.
I thought that pocket wizards are able of TTL, P-TTL operating. A sort of wireless cable replacement.

No, the PW +II is strictly manual operation; their signal is independent of the camera. If the remote flash is capable of auto-i.e. something like the 283/285 thyrister circuitry--then you have auto.

As to the notion of a Pentax 5-wire to PC type cord one can be hacked or cobbled together from the Pentax hotshoe to PC cord adapter sold as a PZ accessory a cable and a second modern hotshoe to five wire adapter (the one that looks like a truncated ski-boot). And expensive 'mod'-about $100.00US. It doesn't matter which end one attaches to the adapter-once the circiut closes the flash fires.

I found a suitable hot-shoe base for the flash on ebay. The base has two plugs for the standard PC connector, and a threaded hole on the bottom for mounting it on a tripod. Most of the base is plastic, so the extra pins on the flash unit mounting foot do not ground out. You will need a connector cord with a PC plug on one end and with whatever your radio trigger device needs on the other end.

Of course, with ebay-type or Pocket-Wizard radio triggers, the flash can only be used in auto or manual modes; there can be no communication with the camera to control TTL or P-TTL exposure.
