slow in 2 ways...

How slow and in what way?
Autofocus is slower, and you get more "hunting" in low light. Also, time it takes to clear the buffer with raw pics is greater with the D.

Hope that helps...

My first ever DSLR was the *ist DS about 4 years ago. Naturally, as my first, I loved it. However, I soon got frustrated with a few things, namely having to delve into the menu to change practically everything (WB, ISO etc...) so I moved on to Nikon (also due at the time to Pentax' shocking product availability in the UK).

4 years later, I had seen Pentax make something of a mini revival with the introduction of excellent new bodies and DA primes, so I decided I wanted back in.

Last year I was so desperate for a DA70, I had to just get any camera to put it on - so I got a used *ist D. Now, as a compact piece of kit, the D + DA70 is fantastic. The problem is, having been spoilt with the Nikon D80 and D300m I found the speed of the *ist D to be infuriating. That is, as previously stated, the speed of AF and writing to the memory card. Add to that (tho less important) the screen on the back is innevitably rubbish compared to "modern" cameras....

My honest advice would be to push your finances a little further and get a K-m or a used K10

Cheers,
Gav
